西表島 星砂の浜

西表島にある星砂の浜です。西表島では最北端に位置しています。
西表島には海水浴に適している海岸がいくつかありますが星砂の浜はシャワーや更衣室などの施設が一番整っています。沖縄の多くの海岸がそうであるようにここも珊瑚礁の発達した遠浅の海なのですが星砂の浜は手前のほうに一部深いところがあり魚やサンゴも多いのでシュノーケリングには向いています。星砂の浜にはペンション星の砂という宿泊施設がありここでシャワーが借りられます（有料）。またシュノーケリングのセットも貸してくれます。
西表島の星砂の浜は竹富島の星砂の浜よりも星砂の含有率は高いということですが観光客が持ち帰ったりするために年々数が減ってきているようです。また星砂は本当は砂ではなく有孔虫という生物の殻だということです。星砂の浜は星砂が取れるので星砂の浜と一般的には呼ばれていますがもともと地元ではニシコチという名で呼ばれていたそうです。でも非常に美しい海岸なのですが星砂の浜はなぜか寂しい印象を受ける海岸です。海の色のせいでしょうか。
西表島には石垣島から高速フェリーで行きますが大原港と船浦港の二つがあります。大原港へは４５分くらい船浦港へは６０分くらいです。西表島は沖縄県では沖縄本島についで二番目に大きな島ですが島のほとんどが原生林のジャングルでおおわれています。
星砂の浜は住吉牧場の場という字の上です。
